40TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

40TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

THE 26th July 2014 was a milestone for SHREE KADWA PATIDAR SAMAJ as we celebrated 40 years in the United Kingdom and commemorated the establishment of our first executive committee. The first committee was made of 19 people with the best interests of our community at heart, who started working towards the future of our Samaj in the UK. Due to their fantastic vision and the hard work put by all the Executive Committees since 1974, and with the full support from the members we have carried on progressing towards being known as one of the most active Hindu communities in the UK. During this journey we have managed to bring the community closer with functions like Navratri, Diwali, Sport's Day & later on adding other functions like the Cultural Variety Show and Suptah etc. One of our biggest achievements is having our own Community centre built which was a dream of each and every one of our community members; this was achieved through the help of members of our community from East Africa and other countries. Our celebrations were witnessed by the Lord Mayor of Harrow Mr Ajay Maru, who was presented with a £1540 cheque for his Charity, Mr Barry Gardiner the MP for Brent North and the First Secretary of Visa from the Indian High Commission. We received several messages of support and congratulations to name few were Her Majesty The Queen, the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, the Mayor of London Boris Johnson, Ms Priti Patel MP for Witham and Exchequer Secretary, The Chief Minister of Gujarat Mrs Anandiben Patel and many more. Carole Heffernan of Macmillan Cancer Support also collected a cheque for £11,000 from us. The whole day was enjoyed by everyone as there were activities and performances for all age groups to enjoy. The main attractions were the Games Arcade for youngsters and the Youth Marquee. The events started from 2:30pm with a meet and greet and went on with mind blowing dances from our community members and supporters. The DIVO was enlightened by President Dr Jayantbhai Depani with the first Vice Chairman of the 1974 committee Mr Babubhai Makadia, followed by delicious dinner and Dayro and Mehfils.
The article will be incomplete if I didn’t offer our thanks to the following people:

  • Wed-In-Style for providing the beautiful decorations in the hall
  • The  Caterers, Annapurna for providing the delicious dinner
  • Hiteshbhai and Dhirenbhai Dhulashia of Prestige Print for printing our excellent souvenir brochure

I also would like to say a big thank you to our community who have supported us in organising the function and to those members who placed adverts in the souvenir brochure. Now to complete this note I must thank the President, Executive Committee and the 40th Anniversary Celebration subcommittee and very special thanks to the comperes, Mr Kamal Baria and Smruti Patel (Kansagra) without whose support this function would not have been the undoubted success it has been.
